Cynthia "Cyndi" Beck
Cynthia “Cyndi” Beck
Elected Office, 4-Year Term

The County Clerk is an elected official serving a 4-year term. This office is elected in November of the Presidential Election years and takes office the second Tuesday in January following the election. Cyndi Beck was elected in 1997 and is now in her third term of office.

Since taking office, there have been many changes in technology. One addition to the office is an imaging system. This was purchased with the goal to have County records available online for public access. Imaging County Commission Meeting minutes and the related documentation is currently underway.

The County Clerk serves as the official secretary to the Board of County Commissioners. The Clerk attends sessions of the board, either in person or by deputy. Responsibilities include keeping the seal, recording the papers of the board, signing the records of proceedings and attesting the same with the seal of the county. The County Clerk is the repository for all board records. Minutes of the meetings are retained forever.

There are many facets to the County Clerk’s office. When former Governor Graves addressed the Kansas Association of Counties for the first time, he said, "If you need to know what is happening in county government, Ask your county clerk."

Scholarship Application

Thank you for your interest in the County Clerk & Election Officials Scholarship Program for 2010.

The application is attached and we would appreciate your completing the application in black pen so that it can be copied for the Committee of 18. The Committee then will review all applications and meet to confer so they may choose the 12 recipients of the $500 Scholarship Certificate.

We would ask that you not send a picture as that is not a part of the application process. Also, there is no need to prepare a special folder or colored embellishments as they do not copy well.

When the Committee meets for the final review, they might ask to see the original application but normally the copies will be all that is scrutinized.

The Committee will plan to meet during the second week of April so the decision can be made for the Clerk & Election Officials Spring meeting the first week of May.

The County Clerk from your County will be presented the Certificate at our Meeting and then they will plan to award it to the winners at some special event.

If you have any questions, please contact your local County Clerk.
