Sheriff’s Siezes $1.5M in Outdoor Marijuana Bust

On 10-07-09 members of the Shawnee County Sheriff’s Office Drug Enforcement Unit with assistance from the Kansas Bureau of Investigations seized an outdoor marijuana grow operation in rural SE Shawnee County.

Acting on information provided by an anonymous source, Deputies and KBI agents went to the area of SE 101st/Croco where they found a large outdoor grow operation which had been very well hidden in a large wooded area. The operation appeared to have been running for at least 6 months with plants in various stages of maturity and included manufacturing, processing, and distributing capabilities. The operation was being run on uninhabited property without the knowledge of the landowner. In all, 1055 marijuana plants were seized with an approximate street value of $1,500,000.

Operations such as this, which until recently had been seen only in rural areas of other states, have already been discovered in various parts of Kansas.

Residents are reminded to stay aware of suspicious activity and report anything that may seem out of place.
