H1N1 Vaccine to be Available in the Community
The second of four public H1N1 vaccinations clinics is scheduled for Thursday, November 5th at the Kansas Expocentre (One Expocentre Drive). This clinic will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., or until vaccine is gone. Vaccine available at this clinic will be directed to individuals who meet one of the following criteria:
- Healthcare workers with direct contact with patients
- Pregnant women
- Children 6 months through 18 years
- Caregivers of children 6 months and younger
Other scheduled clinics are scheduled for November 12th and 19th.
The public continues to be encouraged to take the following steps to protect themselves from the Novel H1N1 influenza virus and all other communicable diseases:
- Cover your cough and sneeze.
- Wash your hands.
- Keep living and work areas clean.
- If you are sick, stay home. Do not get in close contact with those who are ill.

SCHA’s immunization department will be closed on Thursday, November 5th, 12th and 19th. All other services will resume normal operating hours.
Shawnee County residents attending the H1N1 vaccination clinic on Thursday, November 5th between 10:00 am to 2:00 pm (as supplies allow) should be aware of the following:
- Individuals may have to wait outside in the weather conditions, dress appropriately. Camping out is strongly discouraged.
- Nurses will be on site to evaluate individuals to identify the most appropriate vaccine type a person qualifies for and will receive. Both injectable and nasal mist versions of the vaccine will be available in limited supplies.
- Wearing layers over a short-sleeved shirt is encouraged for those who may receive injectable version of the H1N1 vaccine.
- Individuals experiencing influenza like illness should not seek a vaccination until they feel well and have been fever free for 24 hours without the use of fever reducing medications.
- Vaccinations will be provided at no cost during this clinic.
