Parks and Rec Stocks Trout and Extends Hours This Saturday

Shawnee County Parks and Recreation stocked Lake Shawnee with 7,000 pounds of beautiful rainbow trout on Saturday, October 31, at the main boat ramp. The trout must be a minimum of 11 inches in length and at least 600 will be in excess of four (4) pounds each. Lake Shawnee is then closed to fishing until 6:00 a.m., Saturday, November 7th while the fish disperse around the lake. If the trout are not caught this fall most will survive until next spring. A current State of KS fishing license and a Kansas State Trout license is needed to fish for the trout. Kansas State Trout license regulations: Seniors 65 and over do need a Trout license. Youth 15 years and younger do not need a trout license if they only take 2 trout per day. If they take the creel of 5 per day, they must have a trout license. The dates that Kansas State Trout Licenses are required are from October 15, through April 15. (No license required April 16 through October 14) A Kansas State fishing license is also required.

These may be purchased Monday-Friday, 8:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m. at the Lake Shawnee Administration Office, 3137 SE 29th (east of dam). The Lake Shawnee Administration Office will also be open on Saturday, November 7th from 6:00 a.m. until 10:00 a.m. Good luck trout fishing!
