Luqman Yusuf Keys Conviction

For Immediate Release:

November 30, 2018

Shawnee County District Attorney Mike Kagay announced today the conviction of Luqman Yusuf Keys for the 2017 homicide of Arden King in Topeka, Kansas. Today, at the conclusion of a 5-day jury trial, a Shawnee County jury returned a verdict of Guilty for Murder in the First Degree, Committed During an Inherently Dangerous Felony (Off-Grid Felony) and Aggravated Robbery (Level 3 Felony). At a previous hearing, Keys had already entered a plea of No Contest to a separate charge of Criminal Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon (Level 8 Felony). The case will now be scheduled for a sentencing hearing at a future setting. For the top charge, Keys will face a presumptive life sentence and will not be eligible for parole until serving at least 25 years.

Kagay commended the work of Deputy District Attorney Brett Watson as well as the remainder of the trial support staff for their work in prosecuting the case. Kagay also commended the work of the Topeka Police Department who handled the investigation.
