  • Open Records Policy

  • An open and transparent government is essential to the democratic process. In accordance with this principle, Kansas law ensures that citizens have the right to access public records and observe the meetings of public bodies where decisions that affect our state are made. The primary laws protecting this principle are the Kansas Open Records Act (KORA) and the Kansas Open Meetings Act (KOMA). As the District Attorney for Shawnee County, Mike Kagay is committed to providing education on the requirements of open government to citizens as well as members of local government, but he is also dedicated to taking enforcement action when violations do occur. For questions about enforcement of KORA and/or KOMA, please contact the District Attorney’s Office. For questions about obtaining records from the District Attorney’s Office, please refer to the Policy.
