Information
The Learn to Skate Program covers figure skating, hockey and recreational ice skating:
- A program designed for all ages that are interested in learning to ice skate.
- Classes are at the Kansas Expocentre on Saturday mornings.
- The fee is $100 for eight class periods. Skate rentals are available.

Hockey, “Learn to Skate”, Figure Skating
- How do I get registered?
- Contact www.topekayouthhockey.org for the Jr. Roadrunner Program or Learn to Skate Hockey program. Contact Shawnee County Parks and Recreation for details about the adult hockey league and the Learn to Skate. A general registration form is available online at www.snco.us or email us at prathletics@snco.us for information.
- Do I need insurance?
- Yes, TYHA participants need USA Hockey Insurance to participate in the league. The adult league participants need ISI Insurance. www.skateisi.org The Learn to Skate participants will receive insurance when registering.
- Are there payment plans?
- Yes, skating and hockey are not cheap sports. Because of that, we offer payment plans for the youth hockey and adult hockey leagues. The adult league accepts credit cards with the payment plan.

- Great question and here are the adult league details:
- League jersey with sponsor and number. Chance to play for the Owen Cup!
- Fees include all regular season games (Sun & Wed nights), playoffs, and two practice dates.
- Six team league, players of all skill levels available
- Season starts Sept. 15 and goes through February 2011. Officials, ice, awards included.
- Schedules, scores, and standings will be kept online at www.snco.us under the adult hockey on the athletics page. Each team is assigned a captain and there are league reps to assist.
- If I cannot play the entire year are there other skating opportunities?
- Yes, the KS Expocentre offers skating opportunities throughout the year. A schedule is available at www.ksexpo.com. If you intend to substitute in the adult league, it is $18 per game and you must pay prior to being allowed on the ice.
- Where can I find equipment?
- Any current participants know the best way to find used quality equipment. We do not have equipment for sale or rent other than skates for figure skating. It is best to contact us via email and we can forward your requests to the appropriate parties. Anyone not properly outfitted for practices, games, or lessons will not be allowed onto the ice.
