Determination for Primary Election: A determination to hold a primary election may not be known until June 3rd at Noon.
City Offices: A primary election for city offices shall only be held if the number of candidates that file for an office is more than three (3) times the number of positions to be elected. The names of twice the number of candidates as there are members to be elected who received the greatest number of votes at the primary election shall appear on the ballots in the general election. (K.S.A. 25-2108a)
School Board Positions: For all Shawnee County school districts except USD 372 Silver Lake, a primary election shall be held if more than three (3) candidates file for any one position. The names of the two (2) candidates receiving the greatest number of votes will appear on the general election ballot. For USD 372 Silver Lake, a primary election shall be held if more than twelve (12) candidates file. The names of the eight (8) candidates receiving the greatest number of votes will appear on the general election ballot. (K.S.A. 25-2021)

It is “Road Construction Season” and many projects are underway in Topeka and Shawnee County. Some may affect your usual route to your voting place. Access is available to all Shawnee County voting places, but alternate route/access may be necessary for some locations. Therefore, you may want to plan your route before the August 6, 2019, Primary Election. Advance voting is available for your convenience.
